Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world. The stigma of a crocus flower is open only a few days each year, they are carefully hand-picked during that small time frame. One crocus flower can produce anywhere from three to ten saffron threads.
The red Saffron threads add a beautiful golden/orange hue to rice and other dishes. Saffron has a rich and savory flavor profile with an earthy aroma of soft leather. When added to meals it acts as an anti-depressant and increases your mood.

Saffron has an anti-depressant effect that works on altering different chemicals and receptors in the brain. To use: soak about 6-10 saffron threads in half a litre of cold drinking water allow to infuse up to 12 hours, consume about 4oz of saffron infused water as needed to help alleviate mood related ailments, or use 3 strands to 10oz of tea water. For cooking place about 5 threads on top of 3 ice cubes and allow to melt before adding to meal
